Finished bracing the first two sections of the west wall. Virtually no mosquitoes about, testament to the effectiveness of better living through chemicals. Knocked off work at 12:30 in order to give Delores a long-overdue scrubbing. At 2:30, having just completed the cleaning process, Tammy Walsh called, inviting me up to her place in Goshen to retrieve the pallet of granite tombstones I had bought through her. Took three trips in the (nominally) ¼ ton Ranger to retrieve 3,000 lbs of stone. By 5 o’clock that mission was accomplished and I was sorely in need of refreshment. And that is precisely why we bought lakefront property! Marty and Merry came over for burnt-to-a-crisp barbequed spareribs (and I finally incinerated the chicken that had been sitting in the refrigerator about forever waiting for decent barbequing weather). The Lapiduses are amazingly polite, even saying how wonderful the meal was while eating every bit of charcoal served to them. The wine they brought, a 2008 Pinot Noir from the Chilean vineyard owned by their friends, the Kingston family, certainly helped. A delightful evening in spite of my campfire cooking ineptitude.
